The Adenosine Deaminase (ADA), Plasma test measures the level of ADA enzyme in the blood plasma. ADA is involved in the metabolism of purines and plays a role in the development and maintenance of the immune system, especially T-lymphocytes.
This test is commonly used as a supportive diagnostic tool for:
Tuberculosis (TB) – especially tuberculous pleuritis when ADA is elevated in pleural fluid.
Other infections or conditions with immune activation, such as sarcoidosis or certain malignancies.
